He is a media industries researcher specializing in US television history, finance, and how economic discourses shape business outcomes. His training in media studies, political economy, and cultural studies informs his teaching and research interests. He is currently working on a manuscript titled Liquidating Television: A Cultural and Financial History of U.S. Broadcasting, 1945–2022. It goes on to analyze how the major Hollywood studios manufactured discourses of financial loss and meritocracy to shape regulation, bargaining power, and the marginalization of independent producers. His research has been published in Media, Culture & Society, Historical Journal of Film, Radio & Television, New Review of Film & Television Studies, and Media Industries Journal. His academic work is informed by his professional background in business development at various entertainment and technology organizations. Pete is the former Co-Managing Editor of Flow and former member of the Editorial Collective for Velvet Light Trap. He has also served as a judge for the Peabody Awards and the ATX TV Festival.
